Papua is located in a strategic position which connects islands of east Indonesian to Ocenian, it is possible to be inter-cultural growth and interaction teritory. This makes Papua as a ‘cultural melting-pot’which provide the sources of data on same aspects of migration and intercultural relationship in this region, such as caves/shelter and rock art which seems to have originated from the preneolitic, megalithic, paleometalic until colonialism period remains and, the most important, living prehistoric element. Since the archaeology research in 1930s, have revealed the traces of prehistoric cultural core of Papua with Melanesia, which supported widely by discovering the Lapita culture. Otherwise, the discovery of the elements of the Austronesia culture in Papua are the shape of pottery, square adze, poished stone chisel, grinding stone grain, artifacts mollusca Conus, house square, and the open settlement and tradition of chewing betel areca nut is still exist until current time illustration the interaction with Melanesia race around 3500 years ago. Austronesian aspects have much contras with the culture of tribes in the Central Maountains (Pegunungan Tengah) convinced representing the migration of first generation. The Papua first generation that arrived was about 40,000 years ago. Since 17th century, link with Moluccas has developed structure component and Islamic ancient script at Kepala Burung and South-west Papua. So as to Dutch colonization creating central of settlement with Eropa style of setting ang building but still adopted local situation, as in Dom Island (Sorong), in terms of data collection, number of artifact and site keep increasing, however, the dating is still poor compared with the other area of Papua. Therefore, future research must put the priority oncenhancing sites investigation and conducting excavation in order to obtain dating which can illustration the beginning of colonization in Papua, archaeological inventory workshop for local community, it certainly should be followed by preservation and conservation of specific cultural heritage and can represent a certain period of concept. |
